Born in October 1990 in Göteborg, Oscar Micaelsson recently finished his master's degree as a pianist at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. In Copenhagen, his mentor is Deborah Wood.  He has been a student of professor Niklas Sivelöv and Søren Rastogi at the conservatory.  And abroad studies in Paris with prof. Jay Gottlieb, Dr. Naji Hakim.

In 2014 he was awarded the prestigious Leonie Sonning grant for young upcoming artists. And he is awarded Artist of the year, an artist in residence in theregion of southern Sweden. Oscar currently resides in Copenhagen, Denmark. Finishing his book on improvisation, and giving concerts home and abroad.

Besides playing classical and contemporary piano music, Oscar Micaelsson is also active in the fields of jazz and improvisation, he is an organist, and he is a composer. In his writings about music he has concentrated on aspects of jazz, contemporary music and the classical tradition. He was written several texts and lectures about ‘The aspects of jazz, contemporary music and classical tradition’. As a composer he has written many works for Orchestra, several concertos and a Symphony.  And among others, various works for piano, smaller ensembles, choir and chamber music. Oscar has ten years of teaching experience.

In the Royal Academy celebrations of Liszt in 2011 saw Oscar Micaelsson make his mark as a dashing recital soloist, whereas in 2012 he performed the fabled John Cage concerto for prepared piano and chamber orchestra at the annual Academy festival of New Music, going on to celebrate his own birthday by giving a free open-air concert in the town hall square of Copenhagen, playing and conducting Mozart’s ’Jeunehomme’ concerto and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. He later performed in this year in September to the festival ‘Sonic 2.0’ of contemporary music, in which he is also an artistic leader and organiser. The festival is now on its fifth season.

In June 14 2013 Oscar performed Danish composer Gunnar Berg, piano concerto “Frise” for piano and chamber orchestra in Konzerthaus Vienna ’100 Jahre Österreichischer Komponistenbund with European Contemporary Composers Orchestra (ECCO). Same year, following the collaboration in Vienna, Oscar was invited by Gwangju Symphony Orchestra to perform Stravinsky’s Piano Concerto with Harmony Orchestra, working together with maestro Chungki Min in Gwangju, South Korea.

In 2014/2015 Oscar is part of a recently established contemporary ensemble, EKKOZONE. They have performed, and recorded works by Steve Reich and others. In venues as Roskilde Music Festival for Rock and alternative music. Jazzhouse Copenhagen and Tivoli concert hall. The CD with music by Steve Reich will be released in the coming year 2016.

Two years in a row, 2014 and 2015 Oscar has been collaborating with the Copenhagen Opera Festival (city opera cultural project). The project concept was a staged event, bringing opera out the community. His participation involved transcribing the musical material, improvisational interludes and he was involved in the choreography as a performer on the stage.

In January 2016, Oscar was invited to perform a solo recital with compositions from Beethoven to modern contemporary improvisation over a theme by Carl Nielsen at the Mariinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg, the concert is a collaboration with the Danish institute.
